About

What is Vega Chart?

Vega chart provides a powerful, web-based tool for rapidly generating custom graphs. Built on top of industry-standard coding libraries, Vega chart builds your chart for you, eliminates the need for coding expertise. (Although you might learn a little about coding along the way!)

Do I need to know how to code in order to use this tool?

Not at all! This tool is designed so anyone can create charts quickly, no coding required.

To generate graphs, Vega Chart is powered by popular coding libraries like Ggplot2 in R and Seaborn in Python. You can learn more about the programming libraries used in our guide.

If you're curious, you can view the code for every chart you make, and maybe even learn some programming along the way!

How do I use Vega Chart?

Step 1: Choose a dataset

You can use any dataset in common formats like CSV or XLSX.
Don't have one handy? You can use the sample dataset used to create this graph!

Step 2: Select your data

Decide which columns from your dataset you want to plot on the x-axis and y-axis.
After you choose, select whether your data is continuous or discrete:

  • Continuous data: Values that can take on any number within a range (e.g., height, temperature, time).
  • Discrete data: Values that are countable and separate (e.g., number of items, categories, yes/no responses).

Step 3: Create your chart

Now it's time to bring your data to life. Start by choosing the type of chart that best fits your data. If you're unsure what chart to use you can always check our guide for help. Once you've selected a chart, decide what information you want it to display. From there, you can customize the look by adjusting the color gradient, adding a legend, and setting labels for different chart features.

Step 4: Generate your chart

Click Generate to create your chart and see it on the screen. You can also view the code that powers it. When you're ready, press to copy or press to download the chart.
